Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to a US-sponsored Gaza peace proposal during his visit to Washington D.C. on Monday.
Trump’s 20-point plan, released by the White House, calls for the return of hostages, the demilitarisation of Hamas, and the creation of an international oversight body – the “Board of Peace” – to manage the plan’s enforcement.
The Board of Peace would, notably, be led by US President Donald Trump, and Israel would retain security responsibility of the region for the “foreseeable future”.
Moreover, Trump criticised other western leaders for formally embracing Palestinian statehood. Netanyahu said his vision for Palestine is for it to be run by a civilian administration free from both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.
If Hamas rejects the plan, Netanyahu said he will “finish the job”.
